WooCommerce is missing or outdated

A workaround to the error: “WooCommerce is missing or outdated. Germanized is inactive. This version of Germanized requires WooCommerce 3.4 or newer. Please update WooCommerce to version 3.4 or newer”.

Since the update of WordPress 5.5.x and Woocommerce update 4.5.x this annoying error is accumulating. Although the latest version of WooCommerce is installed, this error message is displayed. Somehow the database version number of WooCommerce seems not to have been updated during the updates. This “small” problem can be solved by manually changing the database.

Manually update entry in the database

  • Call the database administration, e.g. via phpmyadmin.
  • Go to the “wp_option” table
  • Search for the entry “woocommerce_db_version”.
  • Go to “Edit
  • Change the version number entry to the version number of your installed version.
  • Now still save

Although we had installed the current version 4.5.1 for a customer project, the version number 3.1.0 was still entered. However, this small manual fix allows WooCommerce Germanized to be reinstalled without any problems. The start screen is loaded automatically and as usual.
